A very happy Tommy McKinstry collecting his prize money.

Our first young bird midweek race got off today (23/07/14) to a great start. With the weather perfect for racing and 1200 birds on board our transporter, racers and trainers, Viv and I headed off to Navan Race Course. The convoy were liberated at 12:15 in a light north east wind, the birds were all gone in seconds. With the east in the wind the birds made for a more central route home. Tommy McKinstry from the Tandragee Club had a super day to take the top 3 positions and collecting the total £100 prize money. Taking 4th position is the Shankill loft of McAuley, Kells & Bowles. Closely followed by Fairley Bros. All lofts reported a very good race and keen to come back next week. Many thanks to all who came and supported our venture.

Why not come along next Tuesday evening for race marking for another midweek race from Navan?

Top 6 positions:
1. Tommy McKinstry 1407
2. Tommy McKinstry 1406
3. Tommy McKinstry 1406
4. McAuley, Kells & Bowles 1393

The 2014 Millar Gold Cup Winner
Captured on camera closely guarding his nest

MILLAR GOLD CUP

Without a doubt , one of the most coveted awards to be won , within the membership of the IHU members only , the length and breadth of Ireland , is The Millar Gold Cup. This is one of the most valuable cups in the sport and was presented to the Irish Homing Union in 1948 by Mr Thomas Millar of 43 Flora Street in the City of Belfast. It was agreed that the pigeon racing trophy known as the Millar Gold Cup was to be competed for each year from the longest Old Bird race organised by the Irish Grand National Amalgamation, ( under the auspices of the Irish Homing Union), and that to be won outright the said cup must be won 10 times in all by said competitor or partnerships and that said competitor or partners must race from a loft situation in Ireland, and that all persons competing for the said Millar Gold Cup must be members of the Irish Homing Union paying such dues and that on these terms all past winner of the Millar Gold Cup be allowed to compete for this trophy. This years winner timing @ 9.25 pm on the day of toss , beating all racing organisations in Ireland , flying from St Malo was the partnership of R McDowell & Son of Annsborough. Robert is the sole racer and keeps the family name to the fore with the weekends performance . Their latest top performer is a yearling blue cock , sent to St Malo feeding youngsters 2/3 days old. His preparation prior to St Malo was the two Talbennys flying with the EDC then rested prior to St Malo . The McDowell partnership were previous winners of the EDC O/B Derby from Lamballe and this hen also was 2nd & 34th Open Lamballe . The Sire of the Millar Gold Cup Winner is a direct son of the Lamballe O/B Derby winner Dam of the Millar Gold Cup Winner was a gift bird from Lecky Bros & Davies , famous for racing " Champion Longstone Lass " . When speaking to Robert to congratulate him on winning the Millar Gold Cup , he was over the moon with the performances of his blue cock . Congratulations Robert on your recent top success. A top result in one of the hardest races in recent years .

Ropa-B for Pigeons - 15th Feb 2011
Nigel Llewellyn, a well known and respected breeder of top racing pigeons told us how delighted he was to find Ropa-B on the UK market again. Nigel used Ropa-B around 5 years ago when he purchased it at a show in Utrecht, Holland. However when he wanted to re-order it he was unable to locate it either in the UK or Holland.

Having seen an advert last year in British Homing World, Nigel telephoned us and asked "is your product the golden oil?" We told him it was and that Ropa-B is the original oregano product. He was really pleased and said he had tried other versions of oregano based products but none had performed the same as Ropa-B.

Nigel told us " I use it all year round for all of my birds, young and old. I can't tell you how pleased I am to have found Ropa-B again. I put it in the drinking water and occasionally add some to the corn and the birds look fantastic on it"

In addition to the Ropa-B Nigel uses FliteBOOST, another natural product that has a very positive effect on the respiratory tract. " I now use FliteBOOST in combination with Ropa-B, these two products mean my pigeons have optimal digestive and respiratory health - people who come and buy my pigeons are always asking me how I keep my birds looking so well. I tell them that the answer is simple, Ropa-B and FliteBOOST ".
